Why do some private investigators not work statewide?

There are a lot of Private Investigation agencies in Florida. The rates can vary wildly. Some are retired law enforcement that do private investigations part time. Others are full time working from their homes and others still have offices and dozens of investigators. All of them have to go through a rigorous background check to verify their experience in investigations and to ensure that they have a clean background. There is also a state mandated test that they must pass before they receive their license. There are also a bunch that offer nationwide service and of course Florida is included. These companies typically sub contract with a local investigator and split the payments that you make with the local investigator. The company that you deal with may not even be the company that actually does your investigations. For this reason, a lot of agencies like ours have service areas that they work in. For instance, we do not do work in South Florida in places like Miami. It is 6 hours away from our main office in Jacksonville Florida and that makes it too expensive to even try to get work there. With the price of fuel and man hours, it would be cost prohibitive for our customers and, as we have told many prospective customers, they would be better off getting a local investigator. It is more effective and cost efficient for the customer.
There are a lot of great Florida Private Investigation agencies out there and they do a good job investigating.
