Let the legal games begin

The have always been and there will always be legal changes in the investigative field. The tremendous advancements made in the technology of surveillance equipment has lead to many debates in and out of the court room on the legality of investigative tools. Let's take a look at one. It's called the keystroke logger. It can be put on a computer and it will log everything that is typed on the keyboard. Is it legal? In most cases, as far as the private investigator is concerned, the answer is no. We don't use them and don't take part in their use. They may very well be legal for a parent to monitor their child's computer or for a spouse to monitor a shared computer to look for signs of infidelity, but that may depend on your jurisdiction. As with many laws, some areas may allow it while others have laws against it. Of course, you also need to look at how the judges in the jurisdiction have interpreted the law or even in some cases, added to it. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with knowing what your children are doing on the computer, or even checking on a spouse or lover that may be cheating, but we don't get involved in using them here. To those that think it may be an invasion of privacy, I would argue that if a spouse is cheating, what right does he or she have to not only turn their back on a committed relationship, but also to possibly bring some life threatening STD into the relationship.
Same scenario with the children. Maybe if we knew more and cared more, there would be less problems. Maybe a child heading down the wrong path can be helped, or maybe even lives saved.
You may think that I am way off base here, but that is the beauty of America. Our opinions can be different and even completely opposite, but we are still allowed to have them.

Until next time.
